AI May Be the Greatest Business Leverage Event of Our Lifetime

I don't care about AI because it's trendy. I care about leverage.

For most of business history, increasing output meant adding people.

More customers? Hire. More leads? Hire. More support? Hire. More administration? Hire.

AI changes that equation.

For the first time, small companies can begin building capabilities that previously required enormous teams.

I don't care about AI because it's trendy. I care about leverage.

Old model vs. new model

The old model is simple arithmetic: ten people times forty hours equals four hundred human hours. The new model multiplies instead of adds: great people, times AI agents, times automation.

Multiply people, not complexity

The goal isn't replacing great people. It's removing low-value work so great people can spend more time doing what humans are unusually good at: strategy, relationships, creativity, leadership and judgment.

The winners of the next decade won't simply have employees using ChatGPT. They'll redesign how work gets done.

Key takeaways

  • —AI is becoming a new form of digital labor, not another software trend.
  • —Small teams can now build capabilities that once required large organizations.
  • —Use AI to remove low-value work — not to remove great people.
  • —Redesign workflows; don't just hand people a chatbot.
